West Side Story's John Arthur Greene, who stars in the current Broadway revival as gang leader Riff, will make his Joe's Pub debut in a new solo show titled JAG. The concert, which fuses rock 'n' roll and musical theater, takes the Joe's Pub stage on June 28 at 9:30pm.
The autobiographical JAG follows Greene's experiences as a preacher's son, his struggles as an aspiring rocker and his life on the Broadway stage. The show also explores the universal themes of young love lost and found, and reflects on the moments that make us who we are and get us where we're going.
Greene made his Broadway debut as a swing in West Side Story. He was featured as Action in a European tour of the musical and has appeared off-Broadway in The Johnny and Mim.
The upcoming Joe's Pub line-up also includes Bambi and Waterwell: Goodbar, a collaborative rock-meets-theater piece inspired by Judith Rossner's '70s novel Looking for Mr. Goodbar and the subsequent film of the same title, starring Diane Keaton. Written and composed by rockers Bambi and produced by theater company Waterwell, the show-cum-concert stars Hanna Cheek, Cara Jeiven, Jimmie Marlow, Tobi Parks and Kevin Townley in a musical exploration of sexuality, independence and persona as seen refracted through a disco ball.
Bambi and Waterwell: Goodbar plays Joe's Pub on July 5 in anticipation of its SummerStage appearance on August 20 at East River Park.
